A collection of unrelated stuff

I’ve half-written about lots of things, but am not really in the mood to finish anything.

Fact: my finishing in general is appalling. Be it putting the ball in the back of the net, killing off an opponent in an RTS game, or completing a project, I struggle with it.

There’s a delicate balancing act to be maintained betwen my interests. Unfortunately I’m not very good at it. So at a time when I’m not reading a great deal, doing more watching of films and playing sport, I go out and buy some books. Why? Because they were cheap (and hardback!), and I did it on Saturday to send a small, futile ‘up yours’ to Joanne Rowling.

Fact: the only two film critics I like are Berardinelli and Kermode.

As well as watching films I got a hankering to watch the brilliant People Like Us again. A friend lent me his Brass Eye DVD (yes, I’d seen it all before). On this DVD, in the Drugs episode, there was a sentence that reminded me of the dialogue in People Like Us.

Drug use for children has for many an education and with obvious alarm to both parents on the increase almost yearly.

Good, isn’t it?

Oh, and I finally got around to posting Solaris back to Amazon.co.uk.

Fact: Amazon say that The Shipping News and Solaris (English version) should be arriving in about a month’s time.

Right then, I’m off once more to play snooker. On Friday the three of us played five frames. I played poorly in the first two and didn’t really care about the last one. I won the fourth in fine style, though, and was only denied the third by a magnificent pot on the pink by one of my opponents. If a record of on in five sounds bad, you have to remember that I’m playing with two other people, one who’s about as good as me, and the other is much better than either of us.
